Fishing

When I was 22 a friend of mine was dealing with a divorce and child support. His ex wife was really sticking it to him with all the power that divorce court gave her. She would harass him for more money and prevent him from seeing his son whenever she felt like it. This tore him up and made him miserable. To try to help him I spent every night hanging out with him until the wee hours of the morning. We fished every single night in search of catfish and tranquility. After a week straight of fishing from 9 pm to 5 in the morning, I came home to a very confused father. My dad asked," Jerry what are you doing every night?" I told him I was hanging out with my friend. He asked if it was a boy or girl. I told him it was a guy. He was puzzled and worried at the same time as he asked," Are you gay?" . I said," no way dad. How can you ask me that?" He then asked me what kind of a guy would hang out with another guy all night everyday. I guess he had a point. But I was not and am not gay. I was just being the best friend I could be. I told this story last year as my friend remarried 19 years later. The crowd loved it. The best stories are the true ones. The best friends are the old ones. What a memory! Miss you Dad.
